Most of you probably know, I like to be organized. So this topic comes entirely from my happy place. So let's get started!
The Bullet Journal. Never heard of it? Neither had I until February,. I was perusing Pinterest one day when The Bullet Journal popped up on my feed. I often have organizational, planner ideas pop up so this wasn't out of the ordinary, but Bullet Journaling? What is that? I was pretty sure I knew all there was to know about planners and calendars. Boy was I wrong!
Here's a brief summary; it's an analogue system of organization that utilizes an index for easy use and tracking. Organizing what, you say? Well, virtually anything. You have a to-do list for the house? Wish list? Gift ideas? Chores? Meals? Garden planing? Wardrobe? Work meetings? Projects? Movies you want to see? Tasks you want to complete? The possibilities are endless. If you write yourself notes, take notes on a phone, use a calendar, maybe post-its are your friend, or maybe you have no system at all? The Bullet Journal could be your bigger and better organizational system for....life.
I know, don't roll your eyes. Big statement. But stay with me, and/or watch this short video to see how it works, from the creator himself, Ryder Carroll
Now to be as transparent as possible, I have only been using it since the beginning of March. And I do tend to love something for awhile very passionately then, like the wind, change my mind. But how is this different and how much could it really be changing my world? Well thank you for asking....
Here's what I'm using mine for....
1. A yearly calendar view
2. Future planning pages
3. Home maintenance tracker
4. Doctor appointment note pages for kids.
5. Gift Ideas
6. Personal wish list
7. Favorite TV show tracker
8. Event Planning
9. Meal Planning
10. Garden Planning and planting schedule
11. Home-school
And much much more. I have even started them for the kids, to track their milestones, their WC Checks, including a letter to them for their birthday, and a list of 20 questions I've been asking them every year since they were 2.
Here are some examples of my personal Bullet Journal. Many of the ideas inspired, or copied from other Bullet Journals. It's a very wide and colorful world of artistic people who share and inspire each other.
If you are one of those and I've forgotten who you are, please let me know and I will give you credit!
Suddenly I have everything I could ever dream in one place. Now, could I do this in an electronic version? Certainly. Have I tried? Yes. I am OneNote's number one fan. No joke. I lived and died by OneNote when I was working in a corporate environment. However, I still found I had written notes. It just happened. There were just times when sitting in front of your laptop and trying to have a meeting or conversation just wasn't appropriate. But a notebook and pencil? Always appropriate, always available. Never a dead battery or out for maintenance.
So this system. What does it cost? A cheap notebook can cost $5- 10 dollars, and a writing utensil of your choice. That's it. In fact, you probably have both of those things hiding in a drawer right now. You could spend far more. If you are picky about notebooks (I like mine to lay flat when open) or have a particular favorite pen, or are just a pen junkie in general then it could become more costly like all things. Realistically there is the cost of time to get it set up. But the time you spend on it, is up to you. There are those who keep the bullet journal basic. Lists, and indexing. There are those that create amazingly artistic pages and probably spend hours of their lives creating works of art.
I like mine to be neat, buy pretty. Functional but fun. And I'm no artist, so I do the best I can whilst practicing my handwriting and doodles. But most importantly I am able to keep track of all the things that need to be tracked!
So why share this information with you? Well if you like to plan, but can't commit to a system, if you wish your "life" was organized in one tidy little place, if you hoped you were better at keeping milestones, or can never find the note you made about something important or just plane like to WRITE THINGS DOWN....then, this could be your ticket.
If you decide to give it a try or get sucked down the rat-hole of Pinterest and YouTube videos with all the possibilities, do let me know:)
Until next week,
Kristie

Future Planning, I have three months to a page.
Weekly Planning where I track appointments, chores, school, meals and TV Shows I don't want to miss.
What a daily spread might look like.
